Readings

Calendar Options

  Explanation

Every month a calendar is created for that month, listing the readings for every day.  Every scripture reference also doubles as a link so that you may conveniently read it online.  Also, above each week is displayed its Torah portion information.  These scriptures may be viewed just like the daily ones, and additionally you may click on the name of the parasha to access First Fruits of Zion's "TorahPortions.org" resources for that week.

Above the calendar you may select which version of the Bible you would like to view the Scriptures in (from 66 different versions).  Also, you may choose whether you would like the Scriptures opened in a new window (separate from the calendar) or in the same window, and whether you'd like the text in a more printer-friendly format without the extra (distracting) graphics.

Now, to read through the books of Psalms and Proverbs every month, 1 chapter of Proverbs and 5 chapters of Psalms are read every day.  The Psalms readings are every thirtieth, starting with the current day number (for example, on the 17th you would read Psalms 17, 47, 77, 107, 137).  The 119th Psalm is not read on the 29th, but instead is reserved for the 31st (when there are no other Psalms readings).

To read through the Torah Portion for each week, its seven 'aliyot Readings are divided among the days of the week.  Each is read on its corresponding day, starting with the first on Sunday and ending with the seventh on Saturday.  This allows you more time to study each individual piece of the portion, and also to better prepare yourself for Rabbi's message for that Saturday.
